Our first priority was to stabilise the roof and create a level base to allow us to re-build the flagstone roof. Sandstone pinnings and limecrete were used along with Vermiculite to achieve this goal.
The crow steps on the south elevation had to be stripped and re-built as they were unstable and had a considerable lean into the tomb. A number of new flagstones were required to be replaced along with the stone roof ridges as the originals were defective and a number were missing from site.
All elevations were built and re-pointed with natural hydraulic lime mortar.
